Ways to De-Stress at University

By Unknown - 14:57

So deadline time has come around again (and bloomin' quickly might I add). We're all held up in our rooms or in the library, reaching word counts and revising in a panic, but there's always time to have a break and relax a bit.

I thought I'd give a few helpful ideas of how to relax when it comes to taking your mind off of your work for just a short while - it's likely that drinking would be our first plan of action, alas, we need to focus on the deadlines first, so give some of these a try instead!

Enjoy the weather
Okay, so it's only just started to brighten up and hasn't it decided to come at an oh so convenient time? But we'll have to make the most of it. If you need to use a computer, or the library, step away from the books and technology for a moment, meet a group of friends and go outside for a stroll. If you're simply revising and only need your books, take them outside and find a quiet spot and revise in the sun!

Look out for university events
Many universities, around stressful periods, offer daytime events that give you some time to de-stress and hang out with your friends, so keep an eye out for such things. Keele for instance holds a 'De-stress Summer Fete'.

Go out for lunch
Get yourself completely off campus for just a few hours, temporarily leave all the essays and revision behind simply to relax and push your work to the back of your mind with a nice meal out with someone or a group of friends. Maybe even do a cheeky bit of retail therapy and treat yourself!

Quite simply, don't stress yourself out
If you put the effort in, revise hard enough and believe in yourself you've no reason to stress out. The key thing is to not let the work get on top of you, you're bound to stress yourself out if you don't leave yourself enough time to get everything done.

But once it's done, it's done. Look ahead to the summer you have to enjoy but don't forget about the good results you want!

What are the ways you de-stress during busy times in your life?

  1. Great post friend!!! Those are great tips! I should start applying them lol.
One of the things I do is to take some time to forget about everything and just watch a movie that I really love. It takes my mind of stress and then when I get back to study I am more relaxed.

    1. In all honesty I doubt I always apply them, but thank you! I do the same, there's nothing like a good film to take your mind of the stresses of studying!
